Important Announcements
In this section you will find regular updates and weekly announcements for the program. Please check back each week.
Saturday October 25 Regular Program this week.
Please remember that all of our program dates appear each week at the end of these announcement. Believe it or not we are only 5 weeks away from our final concert for this session. Please mark it in your calendar.
Our sincere thanks for your cooperation and understanding as we work with the school as they prepare for the fall school show. Tickets for Cinderella can be purchased from Ed MacNeil. We will continue to run Irene's class and orchestra in the pit for now.
Crowd noise in the lobby is still a problem. It is becoming increasingly difficult to run recitals and rehearsals due to the volume of the socializing in the lobby during these events. We are asking that you remember that the sound in the lobby is quite lively and does carry into the cafetorium. It is particularly disruptive when a young child is performing. It is also helpful if we do not open the doors to the cafetorium in the middle of a performance. It is important that we develop good performers and good audience members.
1. Please arrive on time. It would be great if our play-in sessions could start on time. For that to happen, we need you to arrive approximately 10 minutes early to give our faculty members time to get everyone tuned up. If you are able to tune your own instrument, please check it before you leave home.
2. If there is any confusion about where to go, please go to the main page and check last week's announcements under Announcement Archives. Each previous week's announcements are kept there for reference.
3. The school has asked that we try to keep food and drinks out of the classrooms if possible. In addition, they have asked if we could avoid sitting in the lower two sections of the cafetorium as they only have one custodian on for a short time after we leave. Those who do sit inside are asked to keep the noise down during classes and orchestra. We have a very large senior orchestra this year and it is difficult for them to hear the conductors. We will also be having sectionals in the pit area this week so we ask for your cooperation.
4. We are sorry about the inconsistent temperatures in the school. It is beyond our control. Some rooms are hot and some are cold. The heating and cooling systems are not controlled in the building and we cannot change the settings.

Research study - A professor from Huron College is doing a study involving 4 to 9 year old children who study music. Here is a brief excerpt from the request for participation.
We are exploring the link between musical skills and reading skills in children aged 4 to 9 years.
Your child will be asked to complete a series of music and reading tasks, and you will be asked to
complete a short questionnaire related to your child’s music experiences. The total duration of
the study will not exceed 60 minutes of your time. Unfortunately, your child may not participate
if he/she has a known and documented hearing and/or language deficit.
The study consists of one 60 minute testing session that will take place in a child development lab
at Huron University College at Western. Participation in this study is voluntary. You or your
child may choose not to participate in any task or to answer any questions. You or your child may
choose to withdraw from the study at any time, without any effect on your child’s status in his/her
music program. All the data provided by you and your child will remain confidential. No child
will be identified by name in any reports of this study. There are no known risks associated with
your child’s participation in any aspect of this research.
Please note that participation in this study is completely voluntary and FCTE has particular role other than agree to providing the forms and information for Dr. Tang. You can contact her for more information at:
