TO:
ALL PARENTS AND STUDENTS
RE: SEPTEMBER, 2007
FROM:
PATRICK. BURROUGHS
DATE:
SEPTEMBER 13, 200
WELCOME! Our Saturday Program, celebrating it’s 20th Anniversary this year, begins on September 15th – with greetings and registration at 9:00 a.m. and tune up and Play-Ins at 9:30 a.m., at Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School, 1065 Sunningdale Road East.
Directions:
Drive to Sunningdale Road, north of Fanshawe (follow any of Highbury,
Adelaide, Richmond, Wonderland or Hyde Park Road to Sunningdale).
The school is midway between Adelaide Street and Highbury Avenue on
Sunningdale. We enter the school
using the south entrance, not the front.
You can park along south edge of the bus drop off area (near the football
field). There is usually enough
room in that area but there is plenty of parking in the lot at the east side of
the school (you still must enter through south entrance).
REGISTRATION FORM: The Registration Form gives us up to date, accurate information. If you are a new family you must fill out a registration form. Families with changes in contact information (particularly email) should fill out a form or email us with the changes and your intent to register at infofcte@rogers.com Otherwise, your form from last year will suffice. Please return completed forms to Pat Burroughs or to Lorie or John Grandmont on Saturday or email them to the address listed above. Alternatively you could fax it to Lorie at 519-858-9554. There is a downloadable form on the school website at http://www.forestcitytalenteducation.com. WE CANNOT SEND YOU PROGRAM EMAIL WITHOUT A CURRENT ADDRESS.
FEES: There has been an increase in fees this year as our expenses continue to climb and only a small number of families responded to our request for donations in May. The basic fee for the first child in the program is always based on the highest level violin or cello student in the program. Book 2 students who participate in orchestra are required to pay an additional $75 in fees. Our new schedule of fees is as follows:

FUNDRAISING: We expect that tuition fees will cover approximately 85% of the cost of operating the Saturday Program and we will be required to raise the remaining 15% through fundraising efforts, including donations for which tax receipts will be issued. Our goal for fundraising this year is approximately $100 per family.
PLAN FOR SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 15TH: 9:00 a.m. Registration - Registration tables will be set up in the school lobby and we ask that all families register to allow us to update and confirm your information. Every family must be registered with us to participate in our Saturday sessions. Fees should be paid at that time.
9:30 Group Play-in
All violins meet with Pat, Irene and Debbie on the stage. It will be great fun
to have a huge Play-In to begin the year and to give new families a peak at the
talented musicians their children are joining on Saturdays.
It will be a superb introduction to our program.
Cellos will meet with Julia, Lisa and Lac-Hong in the library. Guitars are in Room 246 on the second floor with Paul. Pre-twinkle and Twinkle students, including new students to the program will meet with Mary Lou, Carleen, Brian and Janice in Room 166/167 after a quick listen to the playin.
As play-in progresses and students reach their repertoire ceiling, our class
teachers and accompanists will remove students and bring them to the following
rooms. Please check the lists
posted in the registration area to determine where your child has been place for
these initial sessions.
10:00 - 11:00 (early dismissal this week)
Books 1 and Early 2 (see list) - Jordan and Tori - Room 165
Book 2 and early 3 - (see list) - Heather - Room 148 (same as last year)
Books Late 3 and Early 4 - (see List) - Kerri
- Room 161
Intermediate/Senior Violin division students will remain on stage until given their room locations and teachers by Pat.
TIMETABLE for a regular morning of classes, beginning September 22/07:
8:55 a.m. Arrival and classes
10:30 a.m. Recital
11:00 a.m. Orchestra Rehearsals
12:00 noon – End
CALENDAR: Our program dates for the year are as follows:
September 15/07 to December 01/07 (excluding Thanksgiving weekend)
January 12/08 to March 01/08 inclusive (March 8 and 15 are March break holiday and March 22 is Easter weekend).
March 29/08 to May 31/08 (excluding the May holiday weekend – May 17)
ORCHESTRAS: Our orchestras will begin rehearsal on September 22th. It is essential that every student registered in Book 3 and up play in the orchestra where he/she is most comfortable. Our conductors, in consultation with the private teachers will make those decisions. Book 2 students who have been invited to play in Junior orchestra will be required to pay the additional $75 fee again this year.
RECITALS occur almost every Saturday. Student progress depends upon many aspects of musical study, much is gained from the experience of polishing a piece and performing it in recital. Our recitals provide a warm and supportive audience for your exciting performance. In addition, the recital is a valuable training ground where our students gain from hearing others and learn how to participate as attentive audience members. We highly recommend that each student remain for the recital portion of the Saturday Program. Speak with your teacher and plan to perform as often as possible. Please supervise your children during this time.
